When maestro and composer Joseph Haydn served as the musical director for the wealthy Esterházy family in Vienna, part of his salary was paid in wine. You’ll see why this was such a good deal for him when you taste five superb wines on this fun tour through the Esterházy Winery with a professional guide and sommelier. The history of the winery begins with the construction of a castle cellar in Esterhazy Castle more than 300 years ago, representing a new beginning of wine production in the region.

In the cellar, they experiment with novel wine containers such as eggs, amphorae, and wooden barrels made of local Leithaberg oak! In addition to wood and stainless steel, materials such as granite, concrete, ceramics and clay are used for wine maturation.
